Maureen began her exploration of yoga in the 70s in B.C. and found Iyengar Yoga in 2005. This journey would lead her to her teachers, Margot Kitchen and Sharoni Fixler, in 2009 in Calgary, Alberta. The tradition took hold of Maureen through the teachings, the ‘work’ and the connection of the physical practice to the psychological and spiritual aspects. 2013, she completed the Pre-Teacher Training Program and her Level I in February 2021. Maureen is currently working towards her Level II Certification under the guidance of Senior Teacher Marlene Mawhinney. Maureen is honoured to have studied with many senior teachers, including Marlene Mawhinney, Shirley Daventry French, Jawahar Bangara, Marlene Miller and Abhijata Iyengar. The teachings of the Iyengar family are steeped in knowledge and the science of the body and breath, a place where we should all begin. It is a practice of acceptance and intelligence and an opportunity to teach, share, learn and grow together.

“Asanas make one active, alert, attentive, mentally alert and firm. They ignite
the fire of willpower” Geeta Iyengar
Students say:
“…Bone density. All those weight-bearing standing, and inverted poses had paid off in a very big way! Five years later at age 59 years, the tests showed I was not losing any ground. At 61 years I am still going strong. E.M. (2019)
“…Iyengar Yoga introduced me to a pathway of slowing down and promoting healthy aging. I spent 20+ years competing in triathlons, marathons, and road/mountain bike races. When my body injuries started to show up every 3-6 months, I needed to nurture my body and foster some healthier habits, moving away from intense athletics but still challenging myself. Through consistent yoga practices, I’ve ended up nurturing my mind and soul along this journey. At 52 years, I have less injuries and more peace of mind.
